Things To Do In Kilkenny


For another of our blog entries, we decided to follow the trend of discussing the various things to see and do while visiting the beautiful city of Kilkenny. This historic city is only 30 minutes from our hotel and offers an eclectic mix of shops, bars, restaurants, nightclubs and tourist attractions to suit all needs and interests.

Also a short trip away from The Rhu Glenn Country Club Hotel is the beautiful city of Kilkenny. There is a multitude of things to see and do. Kilkenny has a vibrant nightlife and offers visitors an eclectic choice of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes! One of the most popular tourist attractions in Kilkenny is The Kilkenny Castle.  This castle was built in 1195 by William Marshall, the first Earl of Pembroke. This beautifully restored piece of Irish history. The ornamental gardens which surround this hotel will be sure to please all visitors to this scenic location.

St Canices Cathedral and its round tower are an essential part of the structural heritage of the medieval city of Kilkenny. This ecclesiastical site was founded in the 6th Century and was named after Saint Canice. This cathedral has been an important place of pilgrimage for both religious and tourism reasons. This large cathedral will be sure to leave all visitors speechless with awe.


Much like Waterford, Kilkenny hosts a variety of summer festivals which attract copious amounts of tourists to the area. One of the most popular festivals in Kilkenny is The Cats Laugh Festival which hosts numerous comedians from all over the world. The Kilkenny Arts Festival promotes a variety of different types of art from various artists. This is a fascinating festival which aims to increase the publics interest the arts.
