For this weeks blog entry, as we are now in the middle of summer and everyone is jetting off to exotic locations or staying home bound and travelling to beautiful locations, we thought we'd do one full of practical tips for packing!
Packing can be the most daunting task when planning a trip! Especially is you are like many of us here and like to bring everything but the kitchen sink, but with our few tips, packing will be a breeze for you! So this week we went around our hotel and we asked other members of staff what their ideal packing tip would be, and what we found out will help everyone!
1) The first tip we were given, which was the most obvious, but surprisingly many people didn't think of it was to roll your clothes and not to fold them! Many seasoned travellers often say that rolling your clothes is far superior to folding them. A tightly rolled article of clothing saves space for other things you may want to pack and as an added bonus, they are less prone to getting badly wrinkled, which is always a bonus, especially when you don't want to be ironing your clothes when you are on holidays!
2) The second tip that we found to be handy was to make a packing list. Stay organised and on top of everything by making a list of the items you need to pack, as you pack them cross them off the list. This helps you keep track of everything you are packing and stops you from bringing unnecessary items with you! This also allows you to purchase items you need such as suncream and aftersun before you go away and helps you plan everything in advance, which is always great, especially if you are travelling with children!
3) Thiredly, know your weight allowance and know how much you will be charged if you are over your weight! Both of these change from airline to airline, so be careful and always check well in advance of your flight. This information is normally on the airlines website! You should always pack light, and remember that you will be bringing things home with you. Also remember that if you don't think you need something don't bring it, if you find yourself needing it while on holidays, you can always get it when you are away!
4) Our second last tip would be to layer things! You can layer clothes while you are packing them to save space and you can also wear layers while travelling to save space and that much needed weight in your bag! Just make sure that you wear clothes you will be comfy in as travelling can be uncomfy at times!
5) Finally, a great tip which came from one of our staff members here, never check in essential items! The majority of airlines now offer passengers to bring one item of carry on luggage with them on a flight. You should use this carry on wisely and not pack thins you don't need with you. You should only pack essential items that you would not to lose or damage. A change of clothes, money, mobile phone, jewellery, travellers cheques, etc are all items that you could consider bringing on board with you! Also remember you are not permitted to bring any type of liquids with you, this includes shampoo and conditioner. As an extra tip for everyone you should always store shampoo, conditioner and any other toiletry that could leak in an airtight plastic bag.
We here at The Rhu Glenn Country Club Hotel would like to thank you for reading this blog, and wherever your travels take you this summer, please enjoy them and be safe!
